For many people, when they hear about luxury vinyl tile, they think about an older type of flooring that was used in traditional homes back in the day. But luxury vinyl tile is a different type of flooring. It has many traits that make it perfect for a variety of homes. This style of flooring has pros and cons, and knowing what these are can help you determine if it’s best to install in your house today. Before installing luxury vinyl tile, here are the advantages and disadvantages of using it.
Pro: Luxury Vinyl Tile is Durable
Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) is made up of a multitude of layers. With so many layers of flooring, it guarantees that your LVT won’t suffer damage such as staining, fading, and scratching. This makes LVT perfect for homes that have a lot of foot traffic, especially for families with small children and pets because they could potentially cause spills.
Con: Slippery Surface
Water spills are commonplace for many households. One of the problems with luxury vinyl tile is that it offers a slick surface, meaning it becomes dangerous and slippery when spills occur. These spills can cause people to slip and fall over when they step on wet surfaces.
Pro: Luxury Vinyl Tile is Low-Maintenance
For many natural flooring options, they come with a laundry list of maintenance tasks that will constantly keep you busy. The beauty of LVT is that you can get the appearance of natural flooring materials without all of the hassle. All that is needed is to vacuum it on occasion and use a moist towel to get rid of spills and marks that appear on your floor.
Con: Damage Caused By the Subfloor
LVT can be installed directly on top of another floor, which makes the installation process more convenient. However, if there are any problems with the subfloor, those problems will be reflected on your luxury vinyl tile. You’ll be left with an ugly appearance, and it can even result in gaps in your flooring.
