Unflattening Carpeting and How You Can Prevent Flattening From Happening

Today, we’re going to review how to unflatten your carpeting and what you can do to keep that from occurring again.

Carpeting is still an incredibly popular flooring option, and it can go in so many rooms of your house. Unfortunately, carpets can deflate and flatten as time goes on. Fortunately, these problems can be remedied and prevented. Today, we’re going to review how to unflatten your carpeting and what you can do to keep that from occurring again.

Vacuuming is a Great Place to Start

To unflatten your carpet, vacuuming will go a long way. By vacuuming, you remove the debris on your carpet’s surface. Debris can make it more difficult to treat your carpet, so clearing out the debris is incredibly helpful.

Vacuuming also helps to fluff your carpet up. This makes it easier to tell which spots will require more attention.

Steam Cleaning Can Help as Well

Steam cleaning is another effective method you can use to keep carpets flat. During this procedure, incredibly hot streams of water are shot inside of the carpeting. Afterward, that water is sucked back up, as well as the dirt and debris trapped inside. What’s left is a clean carpet free of debris, and if you get it professionally cleaned, they’ll follow the necessary procedures to not only clean your carpet but also rid it of any non-flat surfaces it may have.

How You Can Unflatten Marks Caused by Furniture

Furniture can make dents in carpeting if it remains in a single spot for an extended period of time. What’s good is that you can remove these dents.

To do so, ice cubes should be placed on top of the spots where the carpet was dented. The ice should be given time to melt, and once that’s done, you can fluff up the carpet again with your fingers.

You’ll also want to vacuum on top of unflattened areas after the drying process has finished. This way, your carpet fibers will fluff up once again.

Preventing Flat Carpeting

While carpeting will always flatten eventually, you can extend how long it takes to get it flat. One way to slow down the flattening process is by moving furniture regularly. We advise moving furniture every day. It doesn’t have to be drastic movement. Even just a one-inch nudge can be enough to ease the pressure on spots on your carpet.

If there are places inside your house that get a lot of foot traffic, install rugs on those spots because rugs do a great job at absorbing all of the wear that comes from people walking in the room.

Lastly, invest in a good carpet. Higher-quality carpets last longer than ones of lower quality. The carpet you get should have great strength and density.
